[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) held a kickoff meeting on the 15th at the Suncheon City Culture and Health Center to design a safe and secure street in the Bukmun-ro area (Maegok-dong, Samsan-dong).

This meeting to promote the 'Crime Prevention Environmental Improvement Project' was the first gathering to listen to the opinions of residents and related organizations, along with the Ministry of Justice, Suncheon Police Station, and experts, and to examine the site in the Bukmun-ro area to identify crime and daily safety issues.

Going forward, the project will support village autonomy activities and education such as crime prevention consulting and resident capacity-building programs, establish a crime prevention plan for the target area, improve problems, and alleviate residents' crime anxiety.

This project was applied for by Suncheon City to the Ministry of Justice to create a crime prevention urban environment in the Bukmun-ro area, which is a planned area for the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, and was finally selected on the 22nd of last month.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon City said, "We plan to improve the Bukmun-ro area of Suncheon City into a socially and environmentally livable area and create the safest village where residents can feel secure through crime prevention environmental improvements."

Meanwhile, the Bukmun-ro area is a phase 4 activation area according to Suncheon City's Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan and is a planned area to apply for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration New Deal Project in the second half of this year to revitalize youth and university culture, create living SOC, and restore community cohesion.
