[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do, has embarked on creating a public parking lot with a capacity of 600 spaces to resolve chronic parking inconveniences in the Manseong district.

On the 15th, the city announced plans to establish 10 public parking lots by the end of this year to address the intensified parking shortage and illegal parking issues within the Manseong district following the relocation of the court and prosecutor's office and the influx of large-scale commercial and office facilities.

First, the city will utilize approximately 20,635㎡ of land within the Manseong district to create a total of 10 public parking lots with 600 spaces, which will be open to citizens.

To this end, the city has completed the purchase of three parking lot sites around the court and prosecutor's office among the 10 designated public parking lot locations. Among these, one site (Manseong-dong 1372-7, 2,258㎡) will have a 65-space parking lot constructed by November, while the remaining two sites will be converted into temporary parking lots and opened to the public.

For the remaining seven sites where land acquisition has not yet been completed, the city plans to create free temporary parking lots by the end of this year for public use. Subsequently, starting in 2022, the city will sequentially purchase the land and develop public parking facilities.

Prior to this, the city has completed negotiations for free use of unmapped land as temporary parking lots with Jeonbuk Development Corporation and LH Jeonbuk Headquarters, which currently own the public parking lot sites.

The city expects that the establishment of a 600-space parking lot in the Manseong district will alleviate traffic inconveniences for residents of commercial and office facilities near the court and prosecutor's office and provide a safer traffic environment.

Lee Kangjun, Director of the Citizen Transportation Headquarters, stated, “The creation of public parking lots will greatly improve the parking environment in the Manseong district and significantly contribute to revitalizing the local commercial area. We consider resolving citizen inconveniences our top priority and will do our best to expand parking spaces.”
