Delivering Companion Plant 'Dongyangran' to Lonely Seniors Experiencing Depression Due to Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Seungro Lee) Gireum 1-dong Community Welfare Council (Chairman Jonggeon Kim) held a safety check visit and a delivery ceremony of the ‘Love Hope Package,’ a safe summer kit, on the 14th for housing-vulnerable families susceptible to heatwaves in the Sori Village area.
The event was conducted by delivering safe summer kits containing nutritious foods sponsored by distribution companies in Gireum 1-dong and warm donation items from the resident community to 20 low-income elderly households living in multi-family houses vulnerable to heatwaves in the Sori Village area.
An elderly recipient of the summer kit said, “My home is an old semi-basement house, and every summer I lose my appetite and struggle, but thanks to these support items, I think I can spend the summer comfortably for a while. I am very grateful.”
A council member who attended the event stated, “During a time when everyone is struggling with COVID-19, we will continue to take the lead and practice sharing for the marginalized vulnerable groups, and through continuous volunteer work for neighbors in need of help, we will create a council that can serve as a model in the community.”
Seongbuk-gu Mayor Seungro Lee said, “Based on neighborly love and sharing through the distribution of summer kits, I will work hard to help improve the lives of more residents.”
