[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT announced on the 15th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bucheon Industrial Promotion Agency and Maro Robot Tech to promote the commercialization of 5G parking robots.
Through this agreement, KT will provide autonomous driving technology based on 5G communication networks for the development and commercialization of parking robots. It will also support improvements to the parking robot control system by applying a real-time parking management system utilizing the cloud. The Bucheon Industrial Promotion Agency has been promoting the Bucheon-type parking robot development project with Maro Robot Tech since last year to alleviate parking difficulties in the old downtown area. A prototype was completed in April this year, and after test operations and performance improvements by December, demonstration operations and commercialization will be pursued.
Starting in 2022, the system will be applied to public parking lots in Bucheon’s old downtown area, followed by the introduction of parking robot systems in domestic public parking lots and industrial and residential complexes. This is expected not only to resolve parking difficulties but also to alleviate the inconvenience experienced by citizens struggling with parking. Yoo Chang-gyu, Head of KT Gangbuk/Gangwon Corporate Customer Division (Executive Director), said, “We expect that 5G parking robots will help resolve parking difficulties in urban areas and the inconveniences faced by the public,” adding, “We will continue to promote related projects with KT’s warm heart to solve the public’s inconveniences.”
Lee Hak-joo, Director of Bucheon Industrial Promotion Agency, stated, “We have established a cooperative system to produce a world-class parking robot system linking the parking robot platform and 5G,” and added, “We believe that the commercialization of parking robots can be actively pursued for both public and private sectors currently promoting smart city projects in Korea.”
