[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Hana Financial Sharing Foundation announced on the 15th that it held the 12th Hana Multicultural Family Awards Ceremony.
This awards ceremony, first held in 2009 as the first of its kind in Korea, aims to contribute to social integration by raising awareness and improving welfare for multicultural families, and this year marks its 12th edition. It is officially sponsored by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
After expert evaluations and on-site inspections over three months starting from April, 13 individuals and 3 organizations were selected as the final awardees.
The grand prize, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award, was awarded to Yoon Ah-young, a marriage immigrant woman from Vietnam. Yoon, married for 17 years with two daughters, is recognized as a role model for marriage immigrants by being a good wife and mother at home and serving as a mentor for migrant workers at her workplace, helping them settle in Korean society. She has been highly praised for her active involvement in various fields, including providing Vietnamese interpretation support at government offices, translating and reviewing specialized textbooks for migrant workers, hosting migrant events, and appearing in independent films.
The awards ceremony, held the day before at the main auditorium of Hana Financial Group’s Myeongdong building in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Ham Young-joo, Chairman of Hana Financial Sharing Foundation; Kim Hee-kyung, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family; Long Dimanche, Ambassador of Cambodia to Korea; Christian D. Hayes, Charg? d’Affaires of the Philippines to Korea; Sumet Chulachat, Minister of Thailand to Korea; Kim Woo-sik, Chairman of KAIST; and Park In-gu, Vice Chairman of Dongwon Group, among others.
Chairman Ham said, “I hope marriage immigrant women who have chosen and settled their lives in Korea achieve their dreams and live happily,” adding, “We will continue to practice ‘finance that grows together and shares happiness’ through tolerance and consideration for multiculturalism.”
The foundation was established in December 2005 by Hana Financial, the first in the banking sector, as a charitable public foundation to systematically and continuously practice neighborly love and sharing management.
