[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Nam Kyung-eup (29), who assisted Jo Joo-bin (24, indicted and detained) in his sexual exploitation crimes in the Telegram 'Baksa Room,' was handed over to the prosecution on the 15th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent Nam, who is charged with joining a criminal organization and other offenses, to the prosecution around 8 a.m. that day. Nam, who had been held in the Seoul Jongno Police Station detention center, appeared for the first time that day as he was transferred to the prosecution.
When reporters asked Nam questions such as "Do you have anything to say to the victims?" and "What was your motive for joining the Baksa Room?" he repeatedly said, "I'm sorry." When asked if he admitted the charges, he replied, "I admit." Nam did not answer any further questions and immediately got into the transport vehicle.
Nam, a paid member of the Baksa Room, is accused of assisting Jo by luring victims and participating in the production of sexual exploitation materials (charges include joining a criminal organization, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, coercion, etc.). He is also charged with threatening victims by imitating Jo’s crimes.
On the 13th, the police decided to disclose Nam’s identity at the personal information disclosure committee and revealed his name and age that day.
The police stated, "The suspect (Nam) is an accomplice of Baksa Room operator Jo Joo-bin and actively participated in crimes targeting women, making the case serious. An arrest warrant was issued, sufficient personal and material evidence was secured, and the risk of reoffending was judged to be high," explaining the reason for the disclosure decision.
Nam’s arrest warrant was once rejected by the court last month. After supplementary investigations, the police reapplied for the warrant, and Nam was detained on the 6th of this month.
Meanwhile, Nam is the sixth suspect whose identity has been disclosed, following 'Baksa Room' operator Jo Joo-bin (24), his accomplice 'Butta' Kang Hoon (18), 'Igya' Lee Won-ho (19), 'Nth Room' operator 'GodGod' Moon Hyung-wook (24), and Moon’s accomplice Ahn Seung-jin (25). He is the third among the Baksa Room accomplices to have his identity revealed.
