[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The U.S. government under the Donald Trump administration announced on the 14th (local time) that it will withdraw the new immigration regulation that cancels visas for international students attending schools with 100% online classes in the upcoming fall semester, Bloomberg reported.
According to the report, Allison Burroughs, a federal district court judge in Massachusetts, stated that the government reached this agreement in response to lawsuits filed by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) against the revision of the immigration regulation.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), under the Department of Homeland Security, announced on the 6th a plan to revise the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) regulations, which include canceling visas or suspending new visas for international students attending all classes online. Just before this policy was announced, Harvard University had declared that all classes for the upcoming fall semester would be conducted 100% online.
