Trump US Government Executes Death Penalty for the First Time in 17 Years (Comprehensive)

Swift Enforcement Immediately After Federal Supreme Court Approval
Two More Executions Scheduled This Week

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] On the 14th (local time), the United States carried out the execution of death row inmate Daniel Lewis Lee (photo), who was imprisoned at the Terre Haute Federal Penitentiary in Indiana. The execution took place immediately after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the previous day's ruling by the Washington DC Federal District Court that had stayed the execution. This marks the first execution in the U.S. in 17 years.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration proceeded with the execution by lethal injection early that morning as soon as the Supreme Court granted permission.

Lee was sentenced to death for the 1996 murders of a firearms dealer and his family, including his 8-year-old daughter, in Arkansas.

The Journal reported that, following the Supreme Court's decision, two other murderers are also scheduled to be executed this week. Additional executions are expected in August.

Although the U.S. Supreme Court has recently issued rulings opposing the Trump administration's positions, this time was different. All five conservative justices sided with the Trump administration, supporting its intent to carry out executions.
