From July 20 to August 30, 40 vulnerable housing groups including elderly living alone and elderly couples aged 60 and above
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced that starting from the 20th, it will operate “Safe Lodging” facilities where local senior citizens can safely escape the summer heat from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This “Safe Lodging” was prepared for elderly people who lost their places to go after the temporary suspension of heat relief shelters such as senior centers and welfare centers due to concerns over the resurgence of COVID-19.
First, the district selected 40 vulnerable residents aged 60 or older, including those living alone or elderly couples in need of family care support, as users of the Safe Lodging. Five local lodging facilities located within convenient distances for the elderly?Donghwa Jang Motel, Dongbu Motel, Cello Park, Athens Motel, and Theme 21?were designated as “Safe Lodging.”
The Safe Lodging is equipped with air conditioning and beds, allowing for comfortable rest during tropical nights.
The operation period is from the 20th to August 30th, and free accommodation is available from 7 p.m. on days when a heatwave warning is issued until 7 a.m. the following day.
Additionally, the district plans to ensure safe operation from COVID-19 by securing visiting nurses and dedicated facility officials, establishing an emergency contact system for immediate response to suspected cases, conducting disinfection at least once a week, and appointing a Safe Lodging disinfection manager.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We hope that through this Safe Lodging operation, elderly citizens can get through the heat without worrying about COVID-19 infection,” and added, “We will operate while complying with COVID-19 prevention guidelines to ensure a safe and comfortable space.”
