[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Yong-chul] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 14th that it will give up its qualification as the second-priority preferred negotiator for the ‘Namdo Uibyung History Park’ promoted by Jeollanam-do.
The decision to give up was made because it was expected that the financial burden due to the massive military expenditure would be significant.
The ‘Namdo Uibyung History Park’ is a policy project of Jeollanam-do, and initially, the construction and operation costs of the history park were to be covered by national and provincial funds, and the project site was to be purchased by the respective city or county.
However, as Jeollanam-do changed the project plan, the selected city or county for the project site must bear 30% (estimated 15 billion KRW) of the total project cost of 48 billion KRW, an annual facility operation cost of 1.2 billion KRW, and the full cost of purchasing a site of about 100,000 pyeong.
County Governor Kim Cheol-woo expressed regret while giving up the qualification as the second-priority preferred negotiator, saying, “The increase in military expenditure burden directly leads to the burden on the residents, which is why this decision was made.”
He also said, “Boseong-gun participated in the public offering project with 0% facility cost and 0% operating cost excluding the land purchase cost of 100,000 pyeong for the Namdo Uibyung History Park, as initially proposed to Jeollanam-do, and being the second priority is practically equivalent to being first,” adding, “We will continue to honor and promote the spirit of the Uibyung without any negligence and actively proceed with our own projects.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun is accelerating the establishment of an integrated development roadmap by newly promoting the 100 billion KRW-scale Beolgyo~Jangdo land bridge project along with the existing projects such as △ Yulpo Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Project (48 billion KRW), △ Boseong·Beolgyo Life SOC Complex Project (70 billion KRW), △ Rural Agreement (50 billion KRW), △ Fishing Village New Deal 300 (36.6 billion KRW), and continuously requesting Beolgyo Station to stop in the basic plan for the electrification of the Gyeongjeon Line.
