[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeong Heon-yul, mayor of Iksan City, is making an all-out effort to secure the national budget for next year by visiting central government ministries to request the reflection of major local projects.
On the 14th, Mayor Jeong met with key officials, including the Budget Office Chief of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, at the time when the final review stage of the budget increase deliberation was being actively conducted, to appeal for the justification of the city's major projects and budget allocation.
First, as part of a large-scale SOC project for balanced national development and strengthening regional competitiveness, he requested the prompt promotion of ▲ Pyeongtaek~Buyeo~Iksan West Inland Expressway and ▲ National Road No. 27 alternative bypass road (Seosu~Pyeongjang) construction project, which will become a logistics hub connecting Saemangeum and industrial complexes, and proposed their inclusion in next year’s national budget.
Next, in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, he emphasized that ▲ the National Infectious Disease Research Institute and ▲ the National Rare Disease Medical Center must be promoted as national projects, and logically explained why Iksan is the optimal location for these two projects in terms of accessibility, connectivity, and scalability.
In addition, as environmental improvement projects where nature and people coexist, he explained the necessity of ▲ the purchase of livestock barns in Wanggung Hyeonup and ecological restoration projects, ▲ the illegal waste disposal project at the Iksan abandoned quarry, and ▲ the maintenance project of old sewage pipelines in Iksan City, and requested active government cooperation.
Previously, despite a busy administrative schedule, Mayor Jeong has continuously conducted all-out budget securing activities by going back and forth between the Government Complex Sejong, public institutions, and the National Assembly to secure the national budget, which is the driving force of regional development.
Mayor Jeong Heon-yul said, “Entering the second half of the 7th elected term, based on the various foundational projects and growth engines established so far, we expect the effects of securing the national budget to become visible from now on,” and added, “We will further strengthen the cooperative system with key local figures and the political circle to achieve regional development through maximum national budget acquisition.”
