[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsang National University in Jinju, Gyeongnam announced on the 14th that it has raised 141.06 million KRW in emergency disaster relief scholarships to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This far exceeded the initial goal of 100 million KRW.
The emergency disaster relief scholarship fundraising was initiated after Kwon Soon-ki, the 11th president, declared upon his inauguration that "we will urgently prepare support measures for our family of students who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation."
From the 6th to the 13th, a campaign was conducted targeting professors, staff, and alumni.
Gyeongsang National University plans to prioritize awarding these scholarships to students from families who lost jobs due to COVID-19, students from families related to closed businesses, and low-income students.
While the scholarship fundraising for university members has ended, fundraising targeting the general public, including alumni, will continue until the 17th.
In particular, since the university requested participation in the scholarship fundraising campaign instead of congratulatory flower wreaths for President Kwon Soon-ki’s inauguration ceremony scheduled for the afternoon of the 15th, the emergency disaster relief scholarship amount is expected to increase further.
