[Asia Economy Reporter Sung Kiho] China has announced sanctions against Lockheed Martin, a U.S. defense contractor that plans to sell weapons to Taiwan.
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this during a regular briefing on the 14th in response to questions about Lockheed Martin's planned arms sales to Taiwan.
Spokesperson Zhao said, "China firmly opposes the United States selling weapons to Taiwan," and urged, "The United States must adhere to the One-China principle and the three joint communiques between China and the U.S. (agreements between the two countries regarding mutual non-interference and reduction of arms sales to Taiwan)."
He added, "China hopes that the United States will stop selling weapons to Taiwan and conducting joint exercises with Taiwan," emphasizing, "This undermines China-U.S. relations and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait."
