This debate was co-hosted by Kim Mi-ae of the United Future Party and organized by the National Adoption Family Solidarity.
On that day, about 30 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, including Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the United Future Party, Park Jin (United Future Party), Choi Hye-young (Democratic Party of Korea), and Jo Jeong-hoon (Transition Era), as well as about 100 adoption families nationwide, attended.
Kim Dong-seok, representative of the Korea Adoption Promotion Association Pastoral Adoption Family Group, presented the flow and proposals of adoption allowance and medical and welfare support systems, indicating the direction of legislative activities to shape future adoption systems and the flow of adoption laws in Korea.
Also, Kwak Jae-young, representative of the Holt Han Sarang Association, a self-help group for adoption families, discussed the effects of adoption and activation plans of self-help groups in the policy proposal for the development of open adoption culture.
In addition, discussions continued on 'Current Status, Differences, and Improvement Directions of Adoption Ordinances by Local Governments' by Bae Ji-hyun (National Adoption Family Solidarity), 'Current Status and Improvement Directions of Post-Adoption Family Services' by Kang Shin-hye (Korean Social Welfare Association Adoption Support Headquarters), and 'Fundamental Problem-Solving Measures for Confirmation of Adoptive Parent-Child Relationship' by Park Si-on (Healthy Adoption Family Group), with Park Jae-chan, Director of the Child Policy Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, participating in the discussion.
Assemblyman Jo O-seop said, "According to the Hague International Child Adoption Convention, which states that all children have the right to grow up in a family, the rights of the child should take precedence over parental authority," and added, "We will establish institutional measures so that not a single child is left out and all children can grow into healthy members of society within the warm embrace of a family."
