[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] The athletics team of Iksan City Hall in Jeonbuk is making a strong showing with a continuous medal streak at national athletics competitions.


According to the city on the 14th, at the 49th National Athletics Championships held without spectators from the 9th to the 13th at the Yecheon Public Stadium Athletics Track in Gyeongbuk, Iksan City Hall athletes Shin Somang and Yoo Gyumin each won a gold medal, and Kim Youngbin won a silver medal.


Female 800m athlete Shin Somang (28 years old) won the gold medal again this time with a time of 2 minutes 12.62 seconds, following her gold medal in the previous competition. Yoo Gyumin (20 years old) also won the gold medal in the men's triple jump with a distance of 15m 83cm. Additionally, male long jump athlete Kim Youngbin (23 years old) earned a silver medal with a record of 7.40m.


The city's athletics team also won gold medals by Shin Somang in athletics and Lee Heeyoung in hammer throw, and a silver medal by Kim Youngbin at the 74th National Athletics Championships and the 20th Korea U20 Athletics Championships held in Jeongseon in June.


With two gold medals and one silver medal won at this recent competition, the team has accumulated four gold medals and two silver medals this year, forecasting promising results in upcoming competitions.


Mayor Jeong Heon-yul said, “It seems that our athletes’ hard training despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19 has paid off,” adding, “Winning consecutive medals in successive competitions is contributing to promoting our city.” He also expressed hope that the athletes would continue to perform well without injuries in the remaining events.
