[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Childcare teachers who abused children aged 3 to 4 by pulling their arms or pressing their bodies have been booked.

The Suwon Jungbu Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 14th that they have booked A, a childcare teacher in her 50s, and B, in her 40s, at a daycare center in Suwon City without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act and the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.

Additionally, the director of the daycare center, who neglected management of the childcare teachers, was also booked.

They are accused of physically abusing six children aged 3 to 4 under their care dozens of times from April until last month.

It is known that during nap time, when a child did not sleep, they covered the child’s entire body, including the head, with a blanket and pressed the neck or chest area of the torso for 20 to 30 seconds with their hands.

There were also reports of forcibly pulling the child’s arm or causing the child to fall.

The parents of the victimized child heard from their child last month that they had a fight with a friend and, while reviewing the daycare center’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, confirmed the abuse and reported it.

The daycare center had a total of eight children, including the six victimized children, and it is known to have closed after the police investigation began.

A and others reportedly denied the charges, claiming they only followed the usual educational process and had no intent.

The police plan to complete the investigation soon and send A and others to the prosecution.
