Eunpyeong-gu Launches 'I-Mom Taxi' Service for Pregnant Women

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is making smooth progress in preparing the ‘I-Mom Taxi’ service for families with pregnant women and infants.

On the 13th, Eunpyeong-gu signed a business agreement with Sangnok Transportation to implement the I-Mom Taxi project.

The I-Mom Taxi is a service in which Eunpyeong-gu and taxi transportation companies collaborate to provide dedicated taxis for families with pregnant women and infants under 12 months old to facilitate transportation for medical visits to hospitals and clinics within the region.

Through a business operator recruitment announcement, the district selected Sangnok Transportation, a local taxi company, as the operator on the 26th of last month.

To implement the I-Mom Taxi service, the district is responsible for ▲developing and operating the reservation and dispatch system ▲providing subsidies ▲business management and supervision, while Sangnok Transportation is responsible for ▲hiring and training dedicated drivers ▲vehicle management ▲internal disinfection and hygiene management for taxi operations.

Applications for using the I-Mom Taxi are made through an app. Since residents use the taxi via the app in a non-face-to-face manner, it is convenient for users and easy to manage. All processes are conducted on smartphones.

Eunpyeong-gu targets approximately 4,500 families with pregnant women and infants in the region. Families with infants under 12 months old as of the application date can use the service free of charge up to twice a day and 10 times a year.

Operating hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The service is limited to within 8 km in the region, which is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy of Eunpyeong.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “By implementing the I-Mom Taxi project, we expect it to provide practical help to families with pregnant women and infants in today’s society, where there is high interest in ultra-low birth rates and infectious disease prevention. Considering that this year is the initial phase of the project, we plan to operate with four vehicles, but if the response is positive after monitoring, we will actively work to expand the eligible children’s age and the number of vehicles to enhance residents’ convenience.”
