[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A man in his 30s who was arrested by the police on charges of murdering his girlfriend and her older sister (robbery-murder) claims that he committed the crime while intoxicated. Meanwhile, a black box video capturing the suspect’s appearance at the time of the incident has been released.

According to the Dangjin Police Station in Chungnam, which is investigating the case, the suspect A (33) strangled his girlfriend to death at an apartment in Dangjin City around 10:30 p.m. on the 25th of last month.

He is also accused of breaking into the older sister’s home in the same apartment complex, hiding there, and killing her when she returned home from work early the next morning.

The black box footage of the crime scene released by JTBC on the 13th shows that immediately after the crime, the suspect took the older sister’s car and fled to Ulsan, where he caused an accident.

After getting out of the car, A moves to the hood of the vehicle and inspects the damaged area. Then, he opens the trunk and takes out a luxury handbag that belonged to the older sister. A sold this handbag the day after the crime.

A currently claims that he committed the crime against his younger sister while drunk and killed the older sister out of fear that she would report him, asserting diminished responsibility and that the crime was impulsive.

Meanwhile, a family acquaintance has posted a national petition demanding the disclosure of A’s identity.

On the 8th, the petitioner wrote on the Blue House petition site, “Innocent sisters were murdered by a mentally ill person.” He lamented, “In one day, parents lost two children, and the children lost their mother... Someone lost a precious person.”

He continued, “This kind of thing could happen to me, my acquaintances, or my family... It’s really scary, how can we live in this country... It seems our country has almost no measures for such incidents. Even if someone kills a person, their identity is not disclosed, and only the victims suffer injustice... For my acquaintance to feel less wronged, and to prevent such incidents in the future... Your precious support for this petition is needed...”

Meanwhile, the police transferred A to the prosecution on the 10th.
