[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 14th that it has selected six senior centers for remodeling this year and will provide a total of 500 million KRW in city funds.
Daegu City, which accepted applications for remodeling target senior centers from districts and counties for about a month starting February 6, temporarily suspended the process due to COVID-19, but on the 8th, after on-site inspections by experts and document reviews, selected six senior centers including Dong-gu Geomsa 1 Senior Center as remodeling targets.
The selection committee, composed of experts from academia and the architectural field, evaluated six criteria: senior center operation performance, alignment with project objectives, project feasibility, remodeling appropriateness, and long-term vision.
The support amount will be differentially provided between 70 million KRW and 100 million KRW per senior center based on Daegu City's support standards according to facility size, reflecting the number of members, building condition, and project plans. By senior center, the amounts are: Geomsa 1 Senior Center (Dong-gu) 90 million KRW, Pyeongni 2-dong Senior Center (Seo-gu) 100 million KRW, Jijang Senior Center (Suseong-gu) 70 million KRW, Janggi-dong Senior Center (Dalseo-gu) 100 million KRW, Woljin Senior Center (Dalseo-gu) 70 million KRW, and Guji-myeon Senior Association Senior Center (Dalseong-gun) 70 million KRW.
The selected senior centers are village-centered, district- or county-owned residential-type senior centers. The first floor will maintain the senior center’s inherent resting function, and the second floor will be developed as an open community space for residents.
Jo Dong-du, Director of the Welfare Bureau of Daegu City, stated, "We will create senior centers as comfortable and familiar environments excluding uniformity, open them as active communication spaces with neighbors, and actively prepare for a super-aged society so that they can be reborn as representative leisure facilities for the elderly."
