Secured 550 Million Won for Projects in Mangu-ro 18da-gil Area... Expected Environmental Improvement and Community Revitalization
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) announced that the Hwikyung Village area around Mangu-ro 18da-gil has been selected for the Seoul-style Alleyway Regeneration Project competition.
The Seoul-style Alleyway Regeneration Project is a small-scale regeneration project conducted at the alleyway level, unlike existing projects targeting large areas.
The area around Mangu-ro 18da-gil covers 4,033㎡ with a total length of 410m. Although the residential environment improvement project was completed in 2015, the area naturally became worn and aged after the project ended, recognizing the need for regeneration, leading to its selection in the Seoul city competition.
The district secured 500 million KRW in city funds through this competition, which will be used for remodeling design and community operation support. Additionally, the district will invest 50 million KRW of its own funds to create painted benches and for fence agriculture.
The district will carry out this regeneration project in connection with the ‘Hwikyung Village Residential Environment Improvement Project’ completed in 2015. Through the project, handrails and illegal dumping prevention facilities will be installed in the alleyways of Hwikyung Village, improving the walking environment, and resting spots such as painted benches will be created in the alleyways.
Moreover, Hwikyung Village will conduct expert consulting for community revitalization and operate various community programs.
The district will proceed with detailed design services this year and carry out the project with a total budget of 550 million KRW, including 500 million KRW in city funds and 50 million KRW in district funds, until 2022.
You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We have achieved the great success of Hwikyung Village being selected for the alleyway regeneration project aimed at improving the old alley environment and revitalizing the community. I hope this project will form an alley community that breathes new life into the area and creates a warm village.”
