Dongjak-gu, Recruiting 60 Participants for Youth Budget School

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is recruiting participants for the Youth Budget School until the 17th.

The district has changed the existing adult-oriented "Dongjak-gu Resident Participatory Budget School" to target youth this year to increase understanding and interest in the resident participatory budgeting system and to create an environment where anyone can voluntarily propose to the participatory budget.

At the "Youth Budget School," education will cover ▲ concepts and principles of policy and budget ▲ understanding of Seoul City and Dongjak-gu participatory budgeting and governance ▲ practice in writing participatory budget proposals.

Additionally, each lecture will include small group deliberations based on theory, case studies, and practical training, along with online discussions and consulting sessions for every class. The participatory budget proposals written by participants during the course will be reviewed by the relevant departments and reflected in the review by the Dongjak-gu Resident Participatory Budget Committee scheduled for August.

This program will be conducted as four sessions in total, each lasting 2 hours, from 4 PM and 7 PM respectively, between the 21st and 24th, through real-time online lectures using the ZOOM video conferencing program.

Graduates will be recognized for 8 hours of volunteer service and can participate as youth supporters of the Dongjak-gu Resident Participatory Budget.

The recruitment target is 60 youths from first-year middle school to first-year high school residing in Dongjak-gu. Interested youths can apply via email, phone, in-person visit, or through a Google link.

For detailed inquiries, contact the Planning and Coordination Division for guidance.

Also, on the 11th, the district held an online inauguration ceremony for the 6th Dongjak-gu Youth Council, a representative youth participation organization, to strengthen democratic citizenship among youth. The event included ▲ appointment of youth council members ▲ introduction of youth council activities ▲ speeches and Q&A sessions for chairperson and vice-chairperson candidates.

The election for the 6th youth chairperson and vice-chairperson will use a mixed voting method combining walk-through on-site voting and ballots sent by mail from the 13th, with voters submitting certification photos online. The final results will be announced on the 20th via a KakaoTalk live broadcast of the 6th Youth Council.

Kim Hyunho, head of the Planning and Coordination Division, said, "The Youth Budget School is a specialized program tailored to socially inclusive targets that guarantees equal participation in the budget formulation process," adding, "We hope that youths, as future practitioners of fiscal democracy, will grow as democratic citizens and contribute to the development of the Dongjak-gu Youth Participatory Budget in the future."
