[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is implementing a project to reconstruct the green space on the traffic island at the north end of Wonhyo Bridge.

This is to improve the roadside green environment where the greenery within the traffic island has been damaged and the facilities have aged. The project aims to increase the amount of greenery in the urban area, reduce noise and air pollution, and create a pleasant street environment.

The project site covers an area of 5,800m² around 54-5 Wonhyo-ro 3-ga. A budget of 870 million KRW will be invested. Construction will start this month and be completed by October.

The basic directions of the project include installing a theme park, creating a scenic central green zone, improving fine dust reduction effects, and establishing a rainwater garden.

A district official said, “The current project site was created a long time ago, and there are insufficient facilities for residents to use and few spaces to rest, so we decided to start the green space reconstruction work.”

The construction will be carried out in four sections.

Section 1 will have a health rest area (walking trail). Exercise spaces, walking paths, deck and shaded rest areas will be installed, and hibiscus syriacus will be planted to create a garden.

Section 2 will feature a forest community space and a central cultural plaza. Street-type rest areas, rocking chairs, circular benches, and a pergola will be installed to create a space where residents can take walks.

Section 3 will have a street garden and scenic rest area. Low-height flowering trees such as azaleas and tall trees like pine trees will be planted. Additionally, a square pavilion and sitting walls will be installed to create resting spaces for pedestrians.

Section 4 will become a space for planting trees and flowers and a rainwater garden. First, pine trees, spiraea, and mixed flowering plants will be planted in a wide area. The rainwater garden will be planted with various plants such as iris, white willow, and silver grass ‘Morning Light’ to create an eco-friendly space using rainwater recycling.
