[Golf Topic] PGA Tour "All Events This Season Held Without Spectators"

[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…○…The U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour will be held without spectators this season.

On the 14th (Korean time), the PGA Tour announced, "We have decided not to allow spectators at any of the remaining tournaments in the 2019/2020 season." This measure was taken due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). There are nine tournaments left in the 2019/2020 season until the final event, the Tour Championship, in early September, but golf fans will not be allowed to attend. The PGA Tour was suspended after the first round of The Players Championship, known as the 'fifth major,' in March due to the impact of COVID-19.

After about three months of a 'forced break,' the season resumed on the 11th of last month with the Charles Schwab Challenge, and all five tournaments since then have been held without spectators. The Memorial Tournament, opening on the 16th at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, was originally planned to allow some spectators, but due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the U.S., it has switched to no spectators. The first major of the year, the PGA Championship in August, will also not allow galleries to enter the course.
