[Breaking News] Overseas Imported Infections 'Surge'... "If Entry Controls Fail, Cases Will Keep Rising"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 14th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases imported from overseas as of midnight the previous day was 1,872.

Among them, the number of confirmed cases imported from overseas over the 17 days from the 27th of last month to the previous day totaled 443.

Cases imported from Asian regions other than China accounted for 256, or 57.8%. By country, the highest number of confirmed cases came from Kazakhstan with 97, followed by the Philippines with 37, Pakistan with 22, and Kyrgyzstan with 17.

All these countries are experiencing severe COVID-19 situations locally, and the impact appears to be affecting the domestic situation as well.

Professor Kim Woo-joo of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Korea University Guro Hospital pointed out, "The number of confirmed cases coming from countries with many migrant workers is increasing. If the number of patients continues to rise locally and entry controls are not enforced, the number of confirmed cases imported from overseas will inevitably continue to increase."
