Fines to be Strictly Enforced from August 3 After Guidance Until July 31... 80,000 KRW for Passenger Cars... Anyone Can Report Illegal Parking via Safe Report App... Fines Issued Without On-Site Officer Dispatch
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is officially implementing the resident reporting system for illegal parking in school zones, and from August 3rd, fines will actually be imposed.
Vehicles parked illegally on roads in front of the main gates of 20 elementary schools in the area, including Dapsimni Elementary, Anpyeong Elementary, Hongneung Elementary, and Jeondong Elementary, will be fined from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (excluding weekends and holidays). The fine is 80,000 KRW for passenger cars, which is twice the amount for regular roads. However, a grace period for public awareness will be in effect until July 31st, and fines will be enforced starting August 3rd.
Any resident can report vehicles illegally parked in the designated areas. By taking photos of the illegally parked vehicle (at least two photos taken at one-minute intervals) using smartphone apps (Seoul Smart Complaint, Life Complaint, Safety Report) and submitting a report, fines will be imposed immediately without on-site verification by enforcement officers.
You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Illegal parking in front of schools must be eradicated for the safety of our children,” and added, “Through the resident reporting system for illegal parking in school zones, I hope the awareness that ‘illegal parking in front of schools is unacceptable even for a moment’ will take deep root.”
