[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The second performance of this year's 'Organ Odyssey' at Lotte Concert Hall will be held on the 28th at 11:30 AM.
Organ Odyssey is a performance where audiences can listen to the pipe organ, a pride of Lotte Concert Hall, understand the history and structure of the pipe organ through commentary, and closely observe the inside of the pipe organ.
On the 28th, Organ Odyssey will be presented under the title 'Odyssey Interstellar.' Organist Park Junho and pianist Lee Minjun will rearrange and perform familiar pieces from various genres such as movies, combining the organ and piano. Park Junho and Lee Minjun plan to perform the original soundtrack (OST) of the movie Interstellar, Hedwig's Theme from the Harry Potter film, and Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 together. Although both are keyboard instruments, the organ and piano have very different characteristics, and their combination offers a harmonious yet diverse tone color.
The organ has the characteristic of sustaining sound infinitely as long as the keys are pressed and air is continuously supplied. The reason the organ carries religious connotations and a sacred image is not only due to its long history of use in churches but also because of this sound sustainability. Unlike the organ, the piano, though also a keyboard instrument, has completely different features, allowing dynamic keystrokes and versatile sound transitions.
This performance will feature violinist Kim Jiyoon as the concert guide. Kim Jiyoon made her debut as a host at the first Organ Odyssey stage of this year on February 25, delivering lively explanations alongside the performance. Running the YouTube channel 'Kim Jiyoon's Life Stage,' she conveys the diverse charms of the organ to the audience in an easy and enjoyable manner based on her unique lively image and rich musical knowledge.
The most notable segment of 'Organ Odyssey' is when concert guide Kim Jiyoon enters the inside of the pipe organ and shows it on a large screen through a dual live broadcast method. The audience can see Kim Jiyoon inside the pipe organ on the large screen installed at the front of the stage. Along with the performer's explanations, Kim Jiyoon reveals the inside of the pipe organ in detail, allowing the audience to easily understand the nature of the pipe organ, which is a keyboard instrument with characteristics of a wind instrument, the stops that determine various tone colors, the role and actual movement of the wind chest supplying air to the pipes, the function and operation of the swell box that controls the sound intensity, the length of the longest pipe and the characteristics of the sound it produces, as well as the tonal differences between metal pipes and wooden pipes.
