Applications Open from the 20th... A Total of 7,833 Units to Be Distributed This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that it will expand support for residential low-NOx boilers (eco-friendly condensing boilers).
This expansion of support was promoted to reduce the burden on citizens following the enforcement of the "Special Act on Air Quality Improvement in Air Quality Management Areas" on April 3, which mandates the installation of eco-friendly boilers when replacing residential boilers.
Earlier, Gwangju supported 1,983 residential low-NOx boilers in the first phase in February, and plans to add 5,850 units, three times the amount of the first phase, in the second half of the year, supporting a total of 7,833 units this year.
The support amount is 200,000 KRW per boiler for the general public and 500,000 KRW for low-income households.
The project targets homeowners within the jurisdiction who install residential low-NOx boilers and tenants authorized by the homeowners. In the case of tenants, they must obtain the homeowner’s consent and include the homeowner’s authorization in the subsidy payment request form.
Residential low-NOx boilers are limited to products certified by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute’s environmental label, with an hourly evaporation rate of less than 0.1 tons (or heat output of 61,900 kcal).
However, since low-NOx boilers may produce condensate, installation may be restricted in locations where piping installation is not possible, so it is necessary to inquire in advance with the boiler installation company (dealer) about installation feasibility.
Gwangju will post the project details on each autonomous district’s website and will accept applications at the applicant’s district office from the 20th until the budget is exhausted.
Applications can be submitted to the district office of the applicant’s residence along with the application form and required documents. Each district will select recipients based on priority and provide support. For more details, contact the environmental department of the relevant district office.
Meanwhile, Gwangju has supported the replacement of about 2,900 residential low-NOx boilers to date.
The distributed eco-friendly boilers emit nitrogen oxides, a cause of fine dust, at about one-eighth the level of general boilers (173→20?) and reduce annual fuel costs by approximately 130,000 KRW.
