[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Citizens' Group for Judicial Exam Preparers has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission, requesting an investigation into Mayor Park Won-soon's human rights violations.
According to the Human Rights Commission on the 13th, the Citizens' Group for Judicial Exam Preparers (Sajunmo) submitted a complaint to the Commission asking for an investigation into human rights violations by Mayor Park and others. A representative from the Commission stated, "A complaint related to Mayor Park has been received and is currently at the 'reception stage,'" adding, "It is difficult to disclose specific details or the subjects of the complaint."
The previous day, Sajunmo announced the filing of the complaint with the Human Rights Commission, stating, "The public wants to know whether the sexual harassment allegations against Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon are true," and "Since criminal prosecution is impossible due to Mayor Park Won-soon's extreme choice, the Human Rights Commission should investigate the facts."
The Human Rights Commission is responsible for investigating and remedying human rights violations related to the duties of national institutions, local governments, and detention or protection facilities. According to the National Human Rights Commission Act, if an investigative agency is conducting an investigation into the incident that is the cause of the complaint at the time the complaint is filed, the complaint is dismissed; however, it is reported that the Commission can still investigate the preventive and remedial procedures regarding human rights violations by the relevant institution.
The Human Rights Commission plans to review whether the complaint case is subject to investigation and then decide whether to commence an investigation.
