[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] Jeonbuk Province announced that it operated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters during the heavy rain advisory period as various damages occurred across the province due to concentrated heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.
According to Jeonbuk Province on the 13th, a heavy rain advisory was issued throughout the province on the 12th, and from midnight on the 13th, it was upgraded to a heavy rain warning. The province experienced an average of 163.2mm of concentrated heavy rain, with the highest rainfall recorded in Wido, Buan-gun, reaching 228mm.
The rain began to subside from the afternoon of the 13th, and most areas are expected to stop raining by the morning of the 14th. Accordingly, all heavy rain advisories were lifted at 9:30 a.m. on the same day.
During the heavy rain advisory period, Jeonbuk Province issued Emergency Levels 1 and 2 at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and operated a 24-hour emergency duty system in cooperation with cities and counties.
The damage caused by this concentrated heavy rain totaled six cases: three public facility damages and three private facility damages.
A section of the delegated National Road No. 13 located in Sanseo-myeon, Jangsu-gun was washed away, and falling rocks blocked traffic on a part of Local Road No. 721 in Beonam-myeon.
Additionally, in Hwangdeung-myeon, Iksan-si, two trees were uprooted.
Private facility damages included flooding in front of a commercial building in Gongdeok-myeon, Gimje, and flooding of two livestock barns in Haengan-myeon and Dongjin-myeon, Buan-gun.
A provincial official stated, “The rain began to subside from the afternoon of the 13th, and the heavy rain seems to have passed,” adding, “Due to the large amount of rain over two days, the ground has weakened, so special caution is needed to prevent additional damage such as landslides and retaining wall collapses.”
