Gwangyang City Selects Companies for 'Small and Medium Enterprise Technology Commercialization (R&BD) Support Project' Participation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 13th that it has finalized the selection of 28 participating companies for the ‘2020 Gwangyang City Small and Medium Enterprise Technology Commercialization (R&BD) Support Project.’

The ‘Small and Medium Enterprise Technology Commercialization Support Project’ is a program aimed at fostering strong small and medium enterprises that represent the region by advancing corporate technology, commercializing products, and developing sales channels.

The city signed a business agreement with Jeonnam Technopark and has been investing 300 million KRW annually since 2018 to minimize damages to small and medium enterprises and help them grow into promising technology SMEs.

The selected companies will receive support for prototype production, process improvement, R&D planning support, testing and analysis, intellectual property acquisition, certification support, management consulting, exhibition participation, and buyer discovery.

Additionally, through support programs for domestic certification, government public project selection, process improvement cost reduction, and prototype production, the project expects to increase product sales and boost revenue.

In particular, this year, to revitalize the local industry affected by COVID-19, the scope of support has been expanded to various sectors including manufacturing, service, and agricultural food industries.

Im Chae-gi, head of the Regional Economy Division, said, “The technology commercialization support project is positively impacting the growth of small and medium enterprises by helping them develop sales channels and create jobs,” adding, “We will prepare multifaceted support measures for SMEs struggling due to COVID-19.”

Meanwhile, last year, Gwangyang City selected and supported 25 companies out of 54 applicants, resulting in an increase of 4.8 billion KRW in sales and 20 additional employees compared to the previous year.
