[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Nexen Tire announced on the 13th that it has completed the establishment of a predictive system capable of significantly reducing tire noise by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) big data.
Recently, Nexen Tire has been conducting industry-academic joint research on NVH (noise·vibration·harshness) big data in collaboration with Hyundai Kia Motors and Inha University.
AI technology using big data is gaining importance in the rapidly changing future mobility market. In particular, the noise field involves vast data results depending on tire pattern shapes and noise design factors, and by applying AI to this data, optimized values for products can be extracted. Additionally, by accumulating noise big data, external radiation noise from vehicles and tires has been significantly reduced.
Tire design factors were implemented using Nexen Tire’s image processing technology, and through joint collaboration between Nexen Tire’s Central Research Institute and Hyundai Kia Motors, research on big data tire noise using AI has become possible.
The anechoic chamber at Nexen Tire’s Central Research Institute, used for noise measurement, is equipped with more than 100 state-of-the-art sensors that enable analysis of various causes and performance related to noise, and it is the first in Korea to have a 4-drum testing facility where actual vehicle tests are conducted.
Nexen Tire plans to accelerate the application of advanced technologies not only for this noise reduction predictive technology but also for aerodynamic reduction predictive technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency, to both premium original equipment (OE) tires and replacement (RE) tires.
Furthermore, Nexen Tire announced plans to lead the global tire industry through continuous investment in research and development (R&D) and various forms of joint research aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, including artificial intelligence and big data.
