15 Tons of Premium Goheung Peaches Exported to Hong Kong... Farmers Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Reflected in the Achievements of the 'Overseas Export Market Development Team' Activities

15 Tons of Premium Goheung Peaches Exported to Hong Kong... Farmers Breathe a Sigh of Relief

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Goheung County, Jeonnam announced on the 13th that it exported 15 tons of Goheung peaches to Hong Kong.

Unlike other regions, Goheung peaches are an early variety shipped in June, giving them excellent price competitiveness, but securing sales channels was expected to be difficult due to the impact of COVID-19.

This export to Hong Kong is evaluated to have helped alleviate the concerns of peach farmers by matching the shipping season.

The county regards this as the result of a $4 million export agreement made during promotional activities in Hong Kong by an overseas export market development team led by County Governor Song Gwigeun, formed in August last year.

Kim Dogi, CEO of Goheung Premium Peach Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, which exports peaches, said, “It is fortunate that the high-quality Goheung peaches, grown with abundant sunlight and sea breeze and having high sugar content, are being exported to Hong Kong, easing our worries about securing sales channels due to COVID-19. We are truly grateful that the county took the initiative to support the export.”

Goheung County has designated high-quality Goheung peaches as a promising income variety and is promoting various support projects such as providing production materials, bags, and logistics cost support for large supermarkets.

A county official stated, “We will actively promote various administrative policies to expand marketing that enhances the brand value of our county’s agricultural products and focus on securing sales channels for other crops as well, so that farmers’ income can be increased.”
