On the morning of the 10th, the opening day of the 334th extraordinary session of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, Chairman Choi received an urgent report on the status of the Goheung hospital fire from officials of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters. After the plenary session ended, he visited the fire site to inspect the damage situation and ordered measures to be taken.
Chairman Choi Mugyeong said, "Although the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters and Goheung Fire Station made efforts to minimize fire damage through rapid fire suppression and rescue activities, it is very regrettable that 3 people died and many were injured." He added, "We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire and conduct a comprehensive inspection of fire safety management practices to prevent the recurrence of such incidents."
Choi Mugyeong, elected as the chairman of the Safety, Construction, and Firefighting Committee for the second half of the term of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, began his first extraordinary session duties on site, fulfilling his inauguration promise to "focus on field-centered standing committee activities to eliminate disaster safety vulnerabilities in Jeonnam Province and strive for the safety of residents."
Meanwhile, at around 3:34 a.m. on the 10th, a fire broke out on the first floor of a hospital in Goheung-eup, Goheung-gun, resulting in 3 deaths and 27 injuries of varying severity.
