Already Open and Operating Since July 1... Remodeling Completed at Angang Sports Complex as Well
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold a completion ceremony for the Bukgyeongju Sports and Culture Center, which features a remodeled Angang-eup General Stadium and a comprehensive sports town, at 4:30 PM on the 13th.
The Bukgyeongju Sports and Culture Center received its completion permit on April 21 and has been officially operating since July 1.
The completion ceremony will be held with the attendance of Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young, National Assembly member Kim Seok-ki, former Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeong Jong-seop, provincial and city council members, and local organization leaders, and will follow the "social distancing" guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Bukgyeongju Sports and Culture Center is a complex sports and cultural facility with one basement floor and two above-ground floors (total floor area of 4,064㎡). It is equipped with sports facilities including a swimming pool (25m × 6 lanes), a fitness center, and an aerobics room, as well as cultural facilities such as multipurpose lecture rooms and cultural lecture rooms. Additionally, a ground-level musical fountain, which serves as a heatwave reduction facility, has been installed on the site, expected to provide a cool resting place during the hot summer months.
This project involved a total investment of 10 billion KRW, including 2 billion KRW from the national government and 8 billion KRW from the city. It is the result of a long preparation period of 10 years since 2010.
Meanwhile, as part of the Angang General Sports Complex development, Gyeongju City completed maintenance work on the aging Angang General Stadium from 2018 to this year, investing 2 billion KRW to replace the artificial turf (converting the hockey field into a soccer field), repaint the spectator seats, and replace the urethane track.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju said, "The establishment of the Bukgyeongju Sports and Culture Center is a long-cherished project of the residents and is expected to greatly contribute to the harmony and sports activities of the local community." He added, "We will continue to do our best to improve residents' living conditions through the creation of various sports facilities."
