[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Xiaomi is launching the first foreign brand 5G smartphone in South Korea priced in the 400,000 KRW range. Xiaomi will also officially release wireless earphones, fans, and home cam products emphasizing cost-effectiveness within this month. They declared plans to expand their Korean market presence by launching more than 20 products, including 5G smartphones and IoT (Internet of Things)-based home appliances.


On the 13th, Xiaomi announced via Facebook that it will hold an online new product launch conference and officially release the 5G smartphone 'Mi 10 Lite 5G' on the 17th. The retail price is 451,000 KRW.


Steven Wang, Xiaomi’s General Manager for East Asia, said, "By launching the Redmi Note 9S, we have expanded domestic sales channels and the opportunity to engage with Xiaomi products is higher than ever." He added, "Xiaomi is making 2020 the year of '5G popularization' by launching the Mi 10 Lite 5G in Korea."

The Mi 10 Lite features a 6.57-inch AMOLED display with a True Color reproduction function that delivers vivid and accurate colors. It is equipped with Qualcomm’s 765G chipset and supports 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It has four cameras: the main camera is 48MP, along with a 120-degree ultra-wide and macro camera. The front camera is 16MP and supports portrait mode. Exposure time locking and AF lock modes are available in Pro mode.


Steven Wang explained, "Since 2020 is the era of video, we have equipped features for creators such as Pro mode and kaleidoscope effects." He added, "It supports simultaneous front and rear recording and a vlog mode that allows quick video production without editing."

The phone has a large 4160mAh battery and supports fast charging up to 20W, allowing all-day use on a single charge. It includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and an 'IR Blaster' function to control home appliances like air conditioners and TVs. It weighs 192g and is 7.8mm thin. Gorilla Glass and an aluminum frame are applied. In Korea, it will be released in a single color, Cosmic Gray.


Pre-orders for the Mi 10 Lite 5G run from the 13th to the 16th. All buyers will receive a 20,000mAh fast-charging power bank, Mi Band 4, and a Mi Smart Scale as a three-piece set. The Korean version of the Mi 10 Lite will be available in carrier-locked and unlocked models. Pre-orders are accepted on 11st, Naver Smart Store, Coupang, Mi Korea Mall, and SK Telecom T Direct Shop.

In addition to smartphones, Xiaomi will release three products in July: the wireless earphones 'Mi AirDots S,' the smart standing fan pro, and the Mi Smart Home Cam 360° 1080p. Steven Wang said, "Korea is a country very familiar with products beyond smartphones," and added, "We plan to unveil more than 20 AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) products in Korea."


The cost-effective wireless earphones 'Mi AirDots S' will be released on the 13th, priced at 21,900 KRW. They feature automatic pairing when taken out of the case and support single-ear mode. Clicking the earbud button switches to game mode, which reduces audio latency. Google Assistant can be accessed from the earbuds for tasks like checking schedules. Bluetooth 5.0 is supported.

Xiaomi’s 'Mi Smart Stand Fan Pro' will be released on the 20th at 99,000 KRW. It can be used wirelessly for up to 20 hours. It has seven blades and can rotate up to 140° wide-angle. It features a convenient charging dock and an energy-efficient 15W rated power. The noise level is 26.6dB(A), allowing quiet operation. It can be controlled via the Mi Home app and supports voice control through Google Assistant.


Steven Wang explained, "The built-in battery allows it to be moved without wires and lasts up to 20 hours, offering excellent mobility and portability." He added, "When charging, simply placing it on the dock aligns it perfectly and starts charging."

Xiaomi will release the home security camera 'Mi Smart Home Cam 360° 1080p' on the 13th. Xiaomi’s home cam has gained popularity among households with pets or young children. It records video in 1080p resolution and rotates 360°. It captures clear footage even at night and allows two-way communication with family via the Mi Home app when away. It has motion detection that immediately notifies the smartphone when movement is detected.


Steven Wang said, "It is a comprehensive security camera recording in Full HD, can be mounted upside down, and is equipped with 10 infrared lights to maintain clear image quality at night." He added, "It rotates 360 degrees horizontally and 96 degrees vertically, allowing full coverage of the home without blind spots."
