Gwangju Nam-gu, District Mayor's Pledge 'Resident Jury Panel' Begins Full-Scale Activities

Gwangju Nam-gu, District Mayor's Pledge 'Resident Jury Panel' Begins Full-Scale Activities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The 6th Resident Pledge Jury Group, consisting of 35 residents in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae), is launching full-scale activities to closely examine the fulfillment of pledges made by Mayor Kim Byeong-nae during the 7th local government term.

According to Nam-gu on the 13th, the '6th Resident Pledge Jury Group Appointment Ceremony' will be held at 3 p.m. on the 14th in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office.

Thirty-five residents participating as pledge jurors will attend the appointment ceremony.

Nam-gu previously requested a professional polling agency to conduct ARS recruitment and telephone interviews for applicants from May to this month to select the jury group. Among 230 residents who wished to participate, 35 were finally selected.

Starting with this appointment ceremony, the 6th pledge jury group will monitor and evaluate the pledge fulfillment status of Mayor Kim Byeong-nae for the next two years until June 2022, when the 7th local government term ends.

In particular, they will attend the annual pledge project progress report meeting and conduct continuous monitoring of pledge fulfillment status, providing advice, recommendations, and suggestions for pledge realization. They are also granted the authority to partially change or adjust projects that appear to have low feasibility.

Nam-gu has established a resident participation board in the manifesto corner on the district mayor’s homepage, allowing the resident jury group to objectively and transparently evaluate the mayor’s pledges and freely express their views. Going forward, they plan to collect the jury members’ candid opinions.

Additionally, after the appointment ceremony, a special lecture to strengthen the capabilities of the pledge jury group will be held.

Lee Kwang-jae, Secretary General of the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters, will take the podium and deliver a lecture titled ‘Innovative Dialogue for Future Society,’ covering methods to analyze core policy directions based on the leader’s philosophy and discussing resident participation and deliberative democracy.

Mayor Kim Byeong-nae said, “We will definitely fulfill the pledges promised to residents. Rather than a shameful success, realizing valuable policies is important. Regardless of success or failure, we will develop more meaningful policies and projects with the future of Nam-gu in mind.”
