[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 62 on the 13th.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was 13,479, an increase of 62 from midnight the previous day.


The daily number of new confirmed cases recorded in the 40s on the 29th and 30th of last month, then rose to the 50s on the 1st and 2nd, and to the 60s from the 3rd to the 5th. However, it dropped back to the 40s on the 6th and 7th, then rose again to the 60s on the 8th. After falling to the 50s on the 9th, it fluctuated between the 30s and 40s from the 10th to the previous day, before rising again to the 60s on this day.


Of the 62 newly confirmed cases, 19 were locally transmitted and 43 were imported. Among the locally transmitted cases, 10 were in Seoul and 3 in Gyeonggi Province, totaling 13 in the metropolitan area. Additionally, 6 cases were confirmed in Gwangju.


Among the 43 imported cases, 18 were detected during quarantine. The remaining cases were confirmed after entry in Gyeonggi (8), Chungnam (4), Seoul and Incheon (3 each), Gangwon and Gyeongnam (2 each), and Daegu, Gwangju, and Chungbuk (1 each).


Combining local and imported cases, the metropolitan area and Gwangju accounted for 27 and 7 cases respectively. New confirmed cases occurred in nine cities and provinces nationwide, including the metropolitan area.


The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation reached 12,204, an increase of 26 from the previous day. The death toll remained at 289, unchanged from the previous day.
