[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Market Kurly announced on the 13th that its self-developed insulated packaging paper (corrugated cardboard) box won the Prime Minister's Award, the first prize, at the 14th Korea Packaging Exhibition.
Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Packaging Technology Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Packaging Exhibition is an event that awards products and designs that enhance domestic packaging technology or contribute to the development of related industries. This year marks the 14th edition, making it the most prestigious award ceremony in the domestic packaging industry.
Market Kurly's insulated packaging paper (corrugated cardboard) box, which won the Prime Minister's Award, employs a packaging method that combines a corrugated cardboard box inside the main paper box. The air layer formed between the double boxes of the main body and the corrugated cardboard traps the cold generated from ice packs and dry ice. After about 40,000 tests, it was designed to maintain a temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius for more than 14 hours, and has completed patent application and design registration.
Market Kurly's declaration and implementation of the 'All Paper Challenge' since September last year, which changed all packaging materials for dawn delivery?including boxes, ice packs, cushioning materials, tape, and pouches?to paper, also had a positive effect. By June this year, Market Kurly reduced 2,541 tons of styrofoam (EPS), 13.78 million plastic bags, 8,396 tons of gel ice packs, and 470,000 plastic tapes.
Kim Seul-ah, CEO of Market Kurly, said, "This award recognizes the results of Market Kurly's continuous research and development of innovative packaging technology since 2016," and added, "We will continue to strive to contribute to the development of the domestic packaging industry based on excellent technology."
