[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 13th at 7:30 a.m. that it will raise the nationwide landslide risk alert from ‘Interest’ to ‘Caution.’
The upgrade of the risk alert is a measure taken due to the increased risk of landslides as the heavy rain that began the previous day has developed nationwide.
Between 12:00 a.m. on the 12th and 7:00 a.m. on the 13th, the accumulated rainfall amounts were ▲ Jeonbuk: Buan 210mm, Gochang 172mm, Gunsan 158mm, Jeongeup 152mm ▲ Gyeongnam: Sancheong 168mm, Geochang 146mm, Geoje 131mm ▲ Jeonnam: Sinan 140mm, Yeonggwang 137mm, Muan 132mm ▲ Chungnam: Buyeo 137mm, Nonsan 127mm, which increase the risk of landslides.
In particular, as of 7 a.m., the Korea Forest Service issued landslide advisories for areas including Goseong, Namhae, Hamyang, Sancheong, Geoje, and Geochang in Gyeongnam, Sangju and Gimcheon in Gyeongbuk, and Namwon in Jeonbuk, urging special caution.
With the increased risk of landslides, the Korea Forest Service plans to maintain a ‘24-hour emergency duty system’ for immediate field response and continue close cooperation with local governments, regional offices, and related agencies.
Additionally, preemptive inspections and measures are being taken to prepare for landslide damage in vulnerable areas, spring wildfire-damaged sites, and solar power facilities.
Lee Kwang-ho, Head of the Landslide Prevention Division at the Korea Forest Service, said, “We ask the public to pay close attention to landslide advisories and heavy rain warnings from the Korea Meteorological Administration and to evacuate promptly according to emergency disaster messages and announcements in case of emergencies.”
