Lotte Department Store, Up to 80% Off on Camping, Carriers, Nintendo, and More

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] As the so-called 'staycation tribe' enjoying vacations in quiet places in Korea has surged due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), numerous product discount events targeting related travel demand are pouring out.

Lotte Department Store announced on the 13th that it will hold a differentiated ‘Travel Fair’ reflecting this year’s staycation trend from the 17th to the 21st. Staycation is a newly coined term combining ‘stay’ meaning to remain and ‘vacation’ meaning holiday. It is a travel trend of staying in one place without going far away.

Accordingly, Lotte Department Store planned the ‘Travel Fair’ themed around the three types of staycation for summer vacations: ‘Homecance’, ‘Wellness & Untact Travel’, and ‘Hokance’. Over 180 brands including The North Face, Black Yak, Travelmate, Nike, and Tom Ford will participate, offering special-priced products worth 8 billion KRW with discounts up to 80%.

Hobby items for the homecance tribe will also be introduced. At the main store’s 9th-floor event hall, on the 17th, a limited sale of 100 units each of the ‘Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing Edition + Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ set and on the 18th, the ‘Nintendo Switch Console + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ set will be held. To minimize queuing, purchase coupons will be issued in advance via the Lotte Department Store app, and only customers with coupons can buy the products. Until the 31st, a home cinema-themed pop-up store will be held on the 8th floor of the main store’s The Wave, and a Gundam pop-up store will be held at the Jamsil branch until the 26th.

There are also products for wellness & untact travel. At the main store’s 9th-floor event hall, a camping fair featuring Black Yak, Kolping, Snow Peak, and others will be held. Camping gear such as tents, cookware, and sleeping bags will be sold at discounts up to 70%. A North Face family fair, a representative outdoor brand, will also be held. Customers can find all lines including The North Face, White Label, and Kids in one place, with vacation-themed family looks discounted up to 70%.

A special exhibition of ‘Travelmate’ for the hokance tribe who spend vacations at hotels will also be held. Travel convenience items such as suitcases, wash packs, and backpacks will be discounted up to 50%, with suitcases sold at a limited quantity for 60,000 KRW. Additionally, fashion items such as swimsuits, sunglasses, and clothing will be sold at 40-70% discounts. Cooling appliances such as circulators and fans will be discounted up to 50%, and various lowest-priced products will be offered.

Along with this, the online mall Lotte Department Store Mall will hold a ‘Travel Fair’ themed exhibition earlier than the offline event from the 13th to the 19th, offering discounts on swimsuits, rash guards, travel bags, and more.

Kim Kwang-hee, head of the men’s sports team at Lotte Department Store, said, “This event was planned to participate in stimulating domestic travel consumption and revitalizing the domestic tourism industry in line with the special travel week hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. We have prepared various product events reflecting customers’ needs according to changes in travel trends, so we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer vacation with Lotte Department Store.”
