'Indian Actor Confirmed Positive' Amitabh Bachchan, His Son and Granddaughter Also Infected with COVID-19

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jeong-ho] Indian film actor Amitabh Bachchan has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

On the 12th (local time), Bachchan posted on his social media (SNS), "I tested positive for COVID-19 and have been transferred to the hospital," adding, "The hospital has reported to the health authorities, and my family and staff are awaiting their COVID-19 test results," updating on the current situation.

Bachchan added, "I hope everyone who has been close to me in the past 10 days gets tested."

Shortly after the news of Bachchan's COVID-19 infection, it was revealed that his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter?spanning three generations?also contracted the virus.

Bachchan's son and actor Abhishek Bachchan announced his COVID-19 infection via SNS, stating, "My father and I are in the hospital with mild symptoms. Please do not be alarmed and remain calm."

Additionally, Abhishek's wife Aishwarya Rai and their 8-year-old daughter also tested positive for COVID-19. Aishwarya Rai is a superstar who has appeared in numerous Indian Bollywood films and enjoys great popularity.

Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most famous film actors in India.

He has appeared in about 190 Bollywood films as an actor and producer since the late 1960s. He is especially popular among domestic fans for his role as Meyer Wolfsheim in the film "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Meanwhile, India has 820,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, ranking third in the world. The death toll exceeds 20,000.
