[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Yeonsu-gu, Incheon has launched the "Yeonsu-gu Urban Development Basic Plan Establishment Project" to derive sector-specific urban development directions and key tasks through the analysis of predictable urban characteristics.
The district announced on the 12th that it has commissioned the Incheon Research Institute to establish a mid- to long-term development strategy and prepare measures to enhance urban competitiveness in response to the rapidly changing urban environment by May next year.
To this end, on the 8th, Yeonsu-gu Mayor Ko Nam-seok, the lead researcher from the Incheon Research Institute, and advisory committee members from various fields attended the project kickoff meeting.
The main tasks of the project include strengthening urban competitiveness to proactively respond to changes in surrounding transportation conditions such as the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX), Wolpyeong Line, 2nd Gyeongin Line, and KTX, as well as preparing balanced urban development plans for Yeonsu-gu including station area development.
Additionally, appropriate development plans for long-unexecuted urban planning facilities such as Songdo Amusement Park, and cultural and artistic festivals that integrate cultural spaces and content such as Songdo Station~Yeokjeon Market, the Municipal Museum, Gachon Gil Hospital Yeonsu Campus, and the Chocolate Museum will be reviewed.
Along with this, the project plans to implement a differentiated future vision reflecting Yeonsu-gu’s unique characteristics by establishing mid- to long-term strategies for balanced development of the old downtown area through architecture, redevelopment, regeneration projects, and sustainable enhancement of urban competitiveness.
Advisory committee members who provided expert reviews and advice include Professor Son Min-ho of Inha University, Park Young-jung, CEO of Yeonsu Cultural Foundation, Choi Hyo-sung, CEO of an architectural firm, Professor Kim Hwan-yong of Incheon National University, and Professor Yoon Byung-jo of Incheon National University.
Yeonsu-gu Mayor Ko Nam-seok said, "I hope that through this project, the image and form of Yeonsu-gu 20 years from now can be clearly presented."
