Jeonnam Province Supports Packaging Materials for Local Food Shipping Farms

70% of Packaging Material Production and Purchase Costs

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 12th that it will support packaging materials for agricultural products shipped to direct sales stores to promote local food sales by enhancing marketability and increasing consumer purchasing power.

This year, the province will invest 350 million KRW to support 70% of the cost of manufacturing and purchasing packaging materials for farmers who ship to local food direct sales stores within the province.

Support will be prioritized for small-scale and marginal farmers with cultivation areas under 0.5 hectares and women farmers.

In particular, to reduce costs, local food direct sales stores are encouraged to jointly purchase packaging materials, but if desired by the farmers, they may individually manufacture or purchase packaging materials such as boxes and films.

Kang Jongcheol, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “We are supporting packaging materials to reduce management costs and household burdens for small-scale and marginal farmers who have faced difficulties due to COVID-19 in local food direct sales stores. Local foods sold are healthy foods produced in the region and are excellent in quality and price, so we ask for active participation.”

Meanwhile, there are 49 local food direct sales stores in Jeonnam Province, with 7,747 farms participating.

As of May, sales reached 42.6 billion KRW, greatly contributing to increasing farm income and revitalizing the local economy.
