[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is advancing the root industry to create jobs.

On the 12th, the city announced that it will accelerate the employment stability proactive response package support project called "Root Industry Leap, Better Tomorrow (Job)".

This project aims to proactively respond to employment stability by promoting mid- to long-term job projects linked to industrial and economic policies led by the region. In April, Incheon formed a consortium with Namdong-gu, Bupyeong-gu, and Seo-gu, submitted a plan to advance the root industry and establish a virtuous cycle structure for job creation, and was selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's public project.

Accordingly, the city will train the workforce necessary for establishing a manufacturing-centered industry based on the root industry. First, the middle-aged special welding training course and the youth MES (Manufacturing Execution System) professional training course will open on the 13th.

Special welding (TIG, CO2) is a core root technology essential for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining products that create high added value from primary processed materials, ranging from various electronic components to large aircraft, oil tankers, and power facilities.

MES is a system that comprehensively manages and executes production processes on-site and connects data, serving as an essential element for smart transformation of root companies.

This education program will operate as a customized curriculum by class to resolve the severe manpower shortage in the root industry and improve employment rates through job seeker-centered education.

The special welding training course targets middle-aged job seekers aged 40 to under 60 and runs until October 8, while the MES professional training course targets youth job seekers aged 34 and under and runs until September 11 at the Korea Polytechnics II University Incheon Campus located in Bupyeong-gu.

The training focuses on practical work and field practice, and after completion, employment support will be provided in connection with the Incheon Root Industry Job Center and others.

The root industry is a process industry that uses process technologies such as casting, mold, plastic working, welding, surface treatment, and heat treatment to turn materials into parts and parts into finished products. It is an important foundational industry that determines the market competitiveness of products, but its role is gradually weakening due to being undervalued as a 3D industry.

An official from Incheon City said, "Through training using customized curricula from specialized educational institutions, trainees will learn professional skills and enhance their employment competitiveness, while companies will be able to hire excellent talent." He added, "We will continue to strive to strengthen job seekers' capabilities and resolve job mismatches through the employment stability proactive response package support project."
