[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Actress Ha Ji-won expressed her interest in environmental protection.

On the 12th, JTBC's 'Banggu-seok 1-yeol' aired a special episode for the Seoul Environmental Film Festival, featuring Eco Friends leader Ha Ji-won, Chairman Choi Yeol of the Environmental Foundation, and director Lee Myung-se. They discussed the films 'Dark Waters' and 'Promised Land.'

MC Jang Sung-kyu asked Ha Ji-won, "Are you very interested in the environment?" To which Ha Ji-won replied, "Rather than thinking 'I am very interested,' the truth is that I live within the environment."

Additionally, Ha Ji-won stated, "When I was offered to become an Eco Friend by the Seoul Environmental Film Festival, considering serious environmental issues like the Australian wildfires, I gladly thought I should join."

Regarding this, Chairman Choi Yeol admired Ha Ji-won's sincere actions, saying, "Ha Ji-won speaking out about the environment is far more influential than an environmental activist shouting."

That day, Ha Ji-won explained about the harmful substance PFOA used in frying pans, "After watching the movie 'Dark Waters,' I went to a mart and casually looked at the back of a frying pan. It said 'PFOA FREE.' Since then, I always check when buying things."

She continued, "In fact, almost all packaging used in marts is plastic," and added, "Sometimes, I wonder if I am buying products or buying trash with money because so much plastic is used."

Also, while watching the movie 'Promised Land,' Ha Ji-won said, "I think the scene where Steve Butler (Matt Damon) talks with children conveys what the director wants to say."

In the film, Steve Butler asks the children, "Are you the owners of this land?" and the children innocently answer, "No."

Regarding this, Ha Ji-won emphasized, "The children answer 'no' purely, but in reality, this land is not promised to anyone but is promised to everyone. It is land that everyone must protect."
