Funeral Committee Requests "Please Refrain from Fake News and Speculative Reports"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The funeral ceremony for the late Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul, will be held online on the morning of the 13th.
Park Hong-geun, co-executive chairman of Mayor Park’s funeral committee, held a briefing in front of the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital on the afternoon of the 12th and stated, "The funeral ceremony will be conducted online under the principle of cooperating with the prevention of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and holding a modest event."
The funeral ceremony will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the 13th with the departure, followed by a move to Seoul City Hall, where it will be held from 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall multipurpose hall. The ceremony will be broadcast live through the Seoul City YouTube channel and others.
Only about 100 limited attendees, including the bereaved family, provincial governors, Democratic Party leadership, Seoul city officials, and representatives of civil society, are expected to attend the funeral ceremony in person.
The funeral ceremony will start with the declaration of opening, followed by the national flag salute, a moment of silence for the deceased, a memorial video screening, a memorial song performance, speeches and flower offerings by the three co-chairmen of the funeral committee, and concluding remarks by the family representative.
The funeral committee announced that after the ceremony, Mayor Park’s body will be cremated at Seoul Memorial Park and then moved to his hometown, Changnyeong in Gyeongnam Province, for burial.
Meanwhile, Representative Park said, "The death of the deceased must be a great shock to those who have claimed to be victims, and I believe that painful times continue for them as well," adding, "I repeatedly ask that no one who mourns the deceased blame, pressure, or harm the victim claimant."
He also added, "Fake news and speculative reports can cause great wounds not only to the deceased and the bereaved family but also to the victim claimant," and "I ask for repeated restraint."
