[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] A detention warrant has been requested for An Joo-hyun (45), an exercise therapist who was called the 'team doctor' of the Gyeongju City Hall Triathlon team, where the late athlete Choi Sook-hyun once belonged.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Unit announced on the 12th that they have requested a detention warrant for An on charges of athlete assault and illegal medical practice (violation of the Special Act on the Control of Health Crimes).

According to the police, An is suspected of assaulting and verbally abusing athletes, performing medical treatments without a medical license or physical therapist certification, and receiving money under the pretext of treatment fees. Additionally, he is also accused of sexually harassing female athletes.

The police arrested An, who had been in hiding, at his residence in Daegu on the 10th, seized his mobile phone and other items, and transferred him to the Gyeongju Police Station, where they conducted intensive investigations for two days. An reportedly denied some charges but generally admitted to the allegations.

Meanwhile, the detention hearing (pre-trial interrogation of the suspect) for An is scheduled to be held at the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office on the 13th.
