Operation Trial for 4 Months Starting July, Full-scale Operation from November
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The National Fire Agency announced on the 12th that it has established and is operating the '119 Integrated Situation Management System,' which can comprehensively manage emergency situations nationwide.
Until now, when disasters requiring national-level response occurred, there was no integrated situation management system, and authorities had to rely on situation reports and videos sent from the field, highlighting the need for a system capable of real-time central control.
Accordingly, the National Fire Agency integrated the 119 situation management systems operated separately at the city and provincial levels to build a nationwide emergency situation management system. The National Fire Agency, city and provincial fire headquarters, and disaster sites are connected as one, enabling faster and smoother overall command, coordination, and control of firefighting forces.
In particular, by directly monitoring dispatch situations nationwide from the initial stage, the National Fire Agency can collect accurate on-site information and respond more quickly when support is deemed necessary.
Additionally, through the integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) and messenger, information from the field and command and operational situations are shared in real time, enabling unified situation management.
The National Fire Agency explained that in the future, not only fires like the Goseong wildfire in Gangwon Province but also national disasters requiring cross-regional firefighting force mobilization, such as typhoons, wind and water damage, and earthquakes, will see enhanced speed in situation assessment and on-site response.
Go Deok-geun, head of the Aviation Communications Division at the National Fire Agency, said, "With the nationwide 119 Integrated Situation Management System, we have established a foundation to grasp and respond to all disaster situations in real time, which will strengthen the response system."
The National Fire Agency plans to supplement deficiencies through a preliminary operation of the 119 Integrated Situation Management System until October, and once the system's stability is verified, it will begin full-scale operation from November.
