[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Five new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Gwangju within one day. Among them, three are related to a badminton club, confirming that six out of the 14 cases reported on the 10th and 11th are connected to the badminton club.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 12th, five people tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day, bringing the total confirmed cases to 161. The five cases reported the previous day were classified as Gwangju cases 157 to 161.
Cases 157 (female in her 80s, Munheung Sangnok Apartment, Munheung-dong, Buk-gu), 158 (male in his 60s, Yongsan Tower, Yongsan-dong, Dong-gu), and 159 (female in her 70s, Maegok-dong, Buk-gu) are all related to the badminton club.
Case 158 visited Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 9th and stayed at another residence in Hwasun on the 11th. Case 159 also visited Hwasun on the 4th and 5th.
Case 160 is a male in his 60s residing in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, who was classified as a contact of Gwangju case 47 and was under self-quarantine. He tested positive in a pre-release test.
Case 161 is a female in her 60s living in Moa Dream Town 1st Complex, Sochon-dong, Gwangsan-gu. The infection route is currently being investigated. She showed symptoms such as sputum and cough since the 8th and visited the screening clinic at Chonnam National University Hospital on the 11th for specimen collection.
Testing related to the badminton club began after epidemiological investigation of case 137 confirmed contact with case 76 at the badminton club competition held at the Chonnam National University Sports Center.
Including cases 76 and 137, a total of eight confirmed cases in Gwangju are related to the badminton club. There are concerns that new infection routes may emerge depending on the movement paths of the newly confirmed cases.
Gwangju City and health authorities are conducting in-depth investigations to identify additional movements and contacts of the confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, since the 27th of last month, a total of 128 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Gwangju.
By age group: under 10 years old - 3 cases, teens - 3 cases, 20s - 6 cases, 30s - 8 cases, 40s - 16 cases, 50s - 30 cases, 60s - 35 cases, 70s - 17 cases, 80s - 7 cases, 90s - 4 cases.
From the 27th of last month to the current day (as of 9 a.m.), the daily case numbers are as follows: 4 → 4 → 3 → 12 → 22 → 6 → 8 → 16 → 7 → 6 → 8 → 15 → 3 → 9 → 5.
