[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the United Future Party, who had planned to pay respects to the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon as early as yesterday or by today at the latest, announced, "There will be no paying respects today."
The United Future Party stated on the 11th, "Chairman Kim has no schedule to pay respects, so please take note for your work."
Until the 10th, the United Future Party had announced that Chairman Kim and floor leader Joo Ho-young, among other leaders, would pay respects, but due to concerns about secondary harm, they decided to postpone the visit for now. Currently, a petition opposing holding the funeral as a Seoul Metropolitan City funeral, citing allegations of sexual harassment against the late Mayor Park, has surpassed 400,000 signatures in just two days.
The opposition parties are taking a cautious stance on paying respects to the late Mayor Park. Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People's Party, also stated on Facebook that day, "I will not pay respects to the late Mayor Park."
